If you’re willing to step into the world of journalism in 2026 and build up your portfolio, we are looking for volunteer journalists to craft thought-provoking and reflective articles for our Literature department.
This would suit someone currently studying or having studied English Literature, Linguistics or Journalism. The ideal candidate is someone who is a bubbly person, well-read, enjoys researching, and has a genuine curiosity to challenge the world around them. Our magazine is dedicated to thinking differently about the world and drawing attention to things that need to be said more often, so it is essential that you offer a passionate voice for this. You can visit our website to take more of a look at what we do and why we do it.
Articles are assigned or pitched: if you have seen something that has sparked interest and you’d like to write about it, then that’s great! If not, that’s great too because we are constantly refreshing our ideas and critical thought. You will work closely with our Literature Editor and other writers to create engaging and meaningful content which shows your voice and curiosity. We work around your schedule and only assign however many articles you can commit to. This may be 1 per month, 2 per month, or 1 every two months, whatever works well for you. We understand you will have a life outside of this commitment!
The ideal person will have:
- Writing skills, including creative writing and content writing
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and remotely
- Passion for literature and storytelling
Writing is remote and can be submitted from anywhere in the world. You do not have to be located in the United Kingdom or have prior writing experience to apply.
To apply:
- email heidi@zimmermagazine.com with your CV and a bit of information about yourself
- attach some previous writing (if applicable) so we can see your style, voice, and tone
- cover letters are always nice but not required
Successful applicants will be contacted via email and will receive an invitation for an informal interview.
