See yourself being published?

How to submit with us

At Zimmer, we always warmly welcome journalistic pitches and submissions, whether that be of poetry, an article, creative writing, or photography. We are especially interested in gathering photography that captures slow and quiet moments of life, such as photos of nature or architecture.

Poetry submissions take up the majority of the magazine weight and are our biggest challenge, so for this we ask that you are patient while we navigate a high volume.

We operate under the assumption that submitted work has not already been published. Please make sure that you notify us if your work has been previously published and where. Our magazine is printed in English, but we warmly welcome other languages and translation. If, for example, your poem is written in Spanish, we ask that you allow us to translate the poetry so that readers can read the English alongside.

Please include a cover letter with your submission, including any information about yourself, why we should publish your work, and any more relevant information.

Poetry

Poetry submissions take up the majority of the magazine weight and are our biggest challenge, so for this we ask that you are patient while we navigate a high volume.

Please do not submit poetry for the sake of submitting poetry. We want to know you, because your story shapes ours. Poetry is personal, and that's why we love it. Who are you? What are your challenges and desires? What emotions do you evoke in your poetry? Readers cannot understand your perspective if they don't know you. We always credit poets in our magazine.

Photography

Photography is the quiet, underlying driving force of our magazine. We are looking for photography that speaks — not just images that are beautiful, but those that carry feeling and intention. What can we show that others miss?

We’re not interested in polished perfection and warmly welcome resonant work - whether documentary, experimental, conceptual, abstract, you name it. Share images that are meaningful and necessary to you. When a photographer does not resonate with their image, you can tell, readers can tell, and we can all tell!

We want to know who you are through your lens — your vision, your sensitivity, your obsessions. Who are you trying to reach? What are you trying to say?

When submitting, you’re welcome (but not required) to include a brief statement or caption that offers context to your images. We always credit photographers in our magazine.

Articles & Interviews

We’re open to anything as long as you have something to say and a voice that makes readers stop and listen. We warmly welcome articles, essays, conversations, interviews, rants, letters, reflections, and anything in between. Pieces that are thoughtful, unapologetic, questioning, or emotionally honest are the best and most read ones.

Your subject can be anything: culture, identity, relationships, community, art, subcultures, technology, memory, resistance, healing. If it matters to you, it’s worth sharing. What matters most is your voice.

If you're submitting an interview, we care as much about who you’re talking to as how you hold the conversation.
