How to submit with us

At Zimmer Magazine, we always warmly welcome journalistic pitches and submissions, whether that be of poetry, an article, creative writing or photography. We are especially interested in gathering both film and digital photography that captures slow and quiet moments of life, such as photos of nature or architecture.

Poetry submissions take up the majority of the magazine weight and are our biggest challenge, so for this we ask that you are patient while we navigate a high volume.

We operate under the assumption that submitted work has not already been published elsewhere. Please make sure that you notify us if this is not the case. Our magazine is printed in English, but we warmly welcome other languages and translation. If, for example, your poems are written in Spanish, we ask that you allow us to translate the poem so that readers can read the English alongside.

Please include a cover letter with your submission, including any information about yourself, why we should publish your work, and any more relevant information.

At Zimmer, we champion the written word and human creativity. We believe in the irreplaceable value of original thought, personal voice, and the craft of writing. We do not accept AI-generated content. All pieces published with us must be entirely human-written. We take this seriously. Submissions found to contain AI-generated content will be immediately rejected, and the writer will not be invited to submit again. We recognise AI tools can serve as aids (e.g. researching a particular topic), but the writing itself must be yours. You can find more information about this in our AI policy.

Poetry

Please do not submit poetry for the sake of submitting poetry. We want to know you and your story, because your story shapes ours. Poetry is personal, and that's why we love it. Who are you? What are your challenges and desires? What emotions do you evoke in your poetry? Readers cannot understand your perspective if they don't know you.

We always credit poets in our magazine so your name will be included alongside each poem and in the contribution page. Along with your submission, please include an author bio in the third person, detailing who you are, what you do and why you do it, including any qualifications or education which is revelant to your story. Please keep this formal without any slang or unnecessary details e.g. John likes to read fantasy with a cup of tea.

Please email your submission to poetry@zimmermagazine.com ensuring you have included all of the relevant information. We will get back to you within 4-6 weeks.

Photography

Photography is the underlying driving force of our magazine. We are looking for photography that speaks and carries meaning.

We are not interested in polished perfection and warmly welcome resonant work - whether documentary, experimental, conceptual, abstract, and others. When submitting, you are welcome to include any information that provides context to your images, such as why you chose to photograph this subject and how you set out on that.

We always credit contributors in our magazine so your name will be included alongside each photograph and in the contribution page.

Please email your submission and/or portfolio to heidi@zimmermagazine.com ensuring you have included all of the relevant information. We aim to get back to you within 2 weeks.

Alternatively, if you would like to be considered for paid shoots, you can email your interest to the above email as well.

Articles & Opinion Pieces

We warmly welcome anything as long as you have something to say and a voice to make someone stop and read. This includes but is not limited to articles, essays, conversations, interviews and reflections.

We primarily commission pieces from pitches. Your subject can be anything that you feel would fit under our umbrella of literature, culture, identity, relationships, memory, resistance, activism, healing. What matters most, though, is your voice. If you believe your idea fits our magazine, we’d love to hear from you. Please send us a short pitch (150–300 words) outlining your idea, why it matters, and how you plan to approach it. If relevant, include links to previous work.

Please note that our magazine is printed in English, therefore we ask that any submitted work is also in English. Our biggest readership is UK readers, so we use British English only.

We always credit contributors in our magazine so your name will be included alongside your work and in the contribution page.

Please email pitches or portfolios to heidi@zimmermagazine.com ensuring you have included all of the relevant information. We aim to get back to you within 2 weeks.
